DANIEL,
JUST A
QUICK NOTE TO TELL YOU HOW MUCH ME AND MY FAMILY ENJOY YOUR MUSIC (MY
FOUR YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS FAVORITE SONG IS SPEEDING MOTORCYCLE) YOUR MUSIC
IS TIMELESS AND JUST DOWNRIGHT GREAT. YOU ARE MY ALL TIME FAVORITE
SONGWRITER. IN MY OPINION YOU ARE AS ORIGINAL AND GREAT AS DYLAN OR
LENNON. I LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC ON A DAILY BASIS AND IT BRIGHTENS MY DAY
QUITE A BIT. I LIVE IN OKLAHOMA WHERE TORNADOS ARE A COMMON THING AND
WHEN THE SIRENS GO OFF AND I HAVE TO GO TO THE STORM SHELTER I GRAB MY
KIDS MY DOG AND MY DANIEL JOHNSTON MUSIC COLLECTION BECAUSE IF WORSE
COMES TO WORSE AND MY HOUSE IS BLOWN AWAY I HAVE ALL THE THINGS I NEED
TO BE HAPPY. I WAS REALLY BUMMED THAT YOU FELL ILL AND HAD TO CANCEL
YOUR SHOW IN OKC MAYBE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SCHEDULE IT AGAIN THAT WOULD
BE GREAT. IAM SAVING MONEY TO BUY SOME OF YOUR ART, THAT WOULD BE ONE OF
MY MOST PRIZED POSSESSIONS. ANYWAY DANIEL TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND I
LOOK FOWARD TO HEARING MORE MUSIC IN THE FUTURE.

Hey Daniel!
I heard you at the roskilde festival while
playing poker in the grass with my dad and my cousin.
Later on I found it quite interesting and me
and my dad went further into the crowd.
It was one of the most special musical events so far for me and I took
it kinda strange how they talked about you and your perfomance.I liked
your riffs and the melodies were simply strong and that voice wasn't a
problem as it may have seemed, I don't like people judging and comparing
voices whn all it need to do is fit with the music and be a bit special.
We think that we got influenced by your troubles and espesially due to
that my dada works with those people with more or less physical
problems. And I have never heard such applauses, you were really
appreciated! At the end of the concert we were almost in the first row
and then we bought the Songs of pain/More songs of pain CD and
we've been pleased and happy(?) since.

Dear
Daniel
I am a
17-year-old boy from Denmark who has spent the past 8 days on the
Roskilde Festival where you played last Saturday. I didn't know
anything about you and your music until i read in the festivalprogram
that you were going to play. I took the chance and went to see you
instead of the marvelous rapartists El-P, Aesop Rock and Rjd2 who were
playing at the same time. I had been looking forward to the rap show
for a long time so it was a hard descission to make.
You
didn't disappoint me. Your concert is the most moving thing i've ever
seen. Simply amazing. Your lyrics and your performance left some
serious marks on my consciousness. Now I have to get Fear Yourself so
I can hear if you're as great on record as on stage.
Bottom
line: You've given me one of the most beautiful concert experiences
ever. Thank you very much Daniel. I hope you're well and that love
isn't too tough on you.

There's
an incredible show happening this Sunday, April 20, Easter. Daniel
Johnston is performing in the ballroom of the Southgate House. Doors
open at 8, and the show starts at 9. It's $10, 18 and up.
For those of you who have never hung out with
Matt and had him force you to listen to his hero, the hundreds of songs
that Daniel Johnston has written over the past 20 years make for some of
the most heartfelt music you're ever likely to hear. This is the first
time that he has ever performed in Cincinnati. EVERYONE SHOULD
COME, don't miss the chance to see a legend perform, and at the top of
his game! His latest album is one of his best. Me or the Moon will
perform before DJ, and Fudgie & Fufu will start the show.
Thanks, hope to see you come out.

Hello!
I saw Daniel again in Northampton last night. The show was just as
satisfying as the previous evening, maybe even more so.
I was able to enjoy Dan's opening act,
Kimya Dawson. I had never
heard her before ( I couldn't hear her at the
MIDDLE EAST in Cambridge due to
the loud crowd and poor sound ) and was pleasantly shocked at her
beautifully rendered songs. Her voice was sweet contrast to the painful
lyrics. I immediately bought one of her CD's after her performance.
And on to Daniel... The
Iron Horse Cafe
in Northampton, MA is a small, personal venue where everyone sits at
tables and can comfortably enjoy the show. The drawback is being forced
to listen to the nonsense going on at the other tables....
... he came on stage at midnight and played even better than
the night before. Bottle after bottle of water was placed by Daniel on
the card table ( which held his portable keyboard ) in preparation for
his 40 minute performance. I don't think he finished the one bottle he
opened.
His playlist varied slightly from his previous performance.
His eclectic manner on stage was evident again as he fumbled with his
notebook and as he slowly migrated his music stand to a position
directly in front of his face, effectively blocking out the audience. A
tactic to hide himself from the room? Maybe, but I got the sense that he
was just trying to be comfortable.

Greetings!
I saw Daniel last night in Cambridge, MA.
and really enjoyed his performance. It was the first time I saw Dan live
( I am seeing him again tonight in Northampton ) and I was fascinated by
him. His presence was not overshadowed by glitz or any amount of
pretension. On stage, his songs sounded just as sincere and personal as
they do when I listen to his music over my headphones.
The long pauses between songs as he leafed
through his notebook, searching for his next song, made the experience
more personal in my opinion. I got the impression that he made up his
playlist as he went along, choosing songs that he wanted to sing at that
moment. It made for a wonderfully honest session.
I am excited about seeing him again
tonight.
