It was back in those days of glory

In my “Grievances” period

I went down to the river

I have it all on film

I had her on my mind

And I’m not kidding

I walked towards them

It was a weird feeling

And when I got too close

They broke into the sky

On that same roll of film

An angel she was

And this I knew

But I sure was surprised

When I got too close

She flew away

I sit and watch

Domestic families

Stand and talk

Of happy land

And kids and love

I sit glassy-eyed

But I can’t understand

I can’t comprehend

Or gather my thoughts
